This is one of the nicest Mason 44's available anywhere. Designed by Al Mason as a safe, seaworthy performance cruiser, easily singlehanded for offshore cruising. "Io" ("eye - oh") named for Jupiter's most dynamic moon is a stunning example of this classic design built by the Ta Shing shipyard, one of the best boatbuilders in the world.

The Mason 44 features a large comfortable cockpit, with 5 cockpit hatches for all of your cruising gear. The wide side decks make for safe and easy sail handling. The Leisure Furl boom and electric halyard winch allow the mainsail to be easily hoisted or reefed from the cockpit. The removable inner forestay allows for a flexible sail plan using a small staysail for heavy weather, short tacking or power reaching. Sail inventory includes a 100% roller furling jib, fully battened furling main, new 2021 Hood staysail and older but very lightly used asymmetric cruising spinnaker; all in very good condition.

The teak interior is warm and rich with incredible Ta Shing woodwork. Lots of deck hatches with new acrylic, and deck prisms fill the interior with light. The innovative 4 way side bunk in the salon converts from a standard settee, to a sea berth with leecloth, to a set of bunk beds, and to a double berth. On top of all this, the hinged seat back has been custom made to access the seatback storage lockers without having to hinge up the entire bunk platform, it's a work of art.

The beautiful salon table fitted with a heavy bronze and stainless telescoping center post, that lowers to form a large double berth. The aft master cabin features a large double pullman-style berth with leecloths. All of the interior cushions look like brand new.

2 in aft master cabin

"Io" has been continuously upgraded by both of her loving owners since new. The teak decks and anchor windlass were replaced by a master shipwright in 2005. The standing rigging was replaced in 2023. In 2008 the electronics were upgraded to B&G H3000 with cockpit displays and autopilot, and a dual screen Furuno NavNet system was installed. In 2022 a new Iridum Go (with external antenna) was installed along with a new Sony marine stereo with amp and external speakers. The Hood roller furling headsail was replaced in 2013, most of the running rigging was just replaced in 2021-2022.

The super reliable 58hp Westerbeke engine and 4.4kW generator just received their annual oil change and are ready to go. Recent varnish, clean bilges, and lots of tender loving care are evident throughout. The boat has been very lightly used, always professionally maintained, and is in excellent condition. 

Newer batteries and dodger, a brand new bimini, and all new canvas covers. "Io" is truly a remarkable vessel ready for Bay cruising, or long distance passage-making.
